Mexico. Steve Lampen, Belden's senior consultant for audio/video cables, was the guest of AES Mexico in November. He traveled from San Francisco to offer Belden's innovations in "star quad" microphone cables, AES3 digital audio or IP audio, to attendees of the month's educational event.
He began by presenting Belden's first "plenum" microphone cable, specially designed to hang from the ceiling in auditoriums and recording venues, and remain fixed, that is, once the directional microphone was pointed at the required place, this special cable remains semi-rigid and captures the sound source in its entirety.
Then he presented a new "star quad" microphone cable, in which the capacitance and inductance have been lowered at the same time, something that was considered impossible. With this we get maximum distance and bandwidth.
A new cable for digital audio AES3 was also presented, which does not require traditional shielding by using "glued pair", that is, by keeping the two conductors so close together that there is no variation in the impedance required by the standard.
Finally, the different improvements in data cables (CAT5e to CA6a) for professional audio applications were mentioned.
