Chile. The votive temple of Maipú is recognized for being the cathedral of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of the country, for the historical importance for the military, for its architecture and, above all, for its acoustic problems that affect religious celebrations.
And it is that the 65 meters of height that the tempo has at its entrance, which go down to 30 meters of height in 30 meters of distance, cause a problem of reverberation in the low average frequencies of 11 seconds.
This means that, as Felipe Vargas, commercial director of Audio Systems, explained to AVI LATINOAMÉRICA, "any low sound resonates a lot. Controlling this has been quite difficult, so we chose to use linear systems to concentrate sound energy on people."
Two previous attempts to improve the sound of the enclosure had failed. But now, with the help of Modeler acoustic design software and audio equipment, both from the manufacturer Bose, the company managed to solve the problems in large part.
In order to develop the project, the Modeler design system generated a 3D model of the temple taking into account all the characteristics, which allowed to simulate all the acoustic solutions, to know what and where to install.
"A new audio system was created, including power supply, speaker system, wiring, amplification system, signal processing, microphones with independent mixing systems for each group of speakers," said Felipe Vargas.
In this way they achieved an automated system with 24 Bose speakers, which allows to adapt the sound according to the number of people attending the ceremony and divide the temple into different areas. In total, the design and execution of the project took three months, achieving results that have been highlighted by all parishioners.
