LumiAID Solar LED Lamps

The main objective of the technology is to improve our quality of life and is what LumiAID, solar LED lamps are looking for. Launched by the web company Indiegogo, as a way to provide help to the poorest and most punished regions of the world, these lamps combine simplicity and ingenuity.

Designed as a cheap resource to help in cases of natural disasters or for countries that do not have electric lighting, LumiAID works with solar energy.

How LumiAID Solar LED Lamps Works

- Publicidad -

Created with the mentality of assisting during emergencies, these very particular luminaires bet on ingenuity and the economy of resources. They were built with a waterproof material that allows them to float in the water, which would facilitate their use in floods, as a reference point to point out the existence of a drinking water point in a disaster area.

This device was designed at the Columbia School of Architecture, as a resource during the earthquakes that devastated the island of Haiti. The luminaire provides five hours of light, with a solar recharge time ranging from four to six hours, depending on weather conditions.

LumiAID is a compact and affordable luminaire. It consists of an inflatable bag covered by a thin sheet of solar panels with rechargeable batteries. This device is shaped like a pillow.

LumiAID was developed by architecture students to help the victims of Haiti's earthquakes, but quickly spread to other deprived areas of the planet. To implement their distribution, they resorted to a plan that includes commercial sales on the one hand, focused on campers and other people who carry out outdoor activities and have environmental awareness. But in order not to lose the initial motivation, in the cost of commercial LumiAID, the value of the lamps that are distributed in the deprived regions of the world is included.

The big advantage of these devices is that they are wireless, portable and recharge with sunlight. In addition to this, they are resistant to water and pressure, so they withstand very well the conditions of use in the field and in areas of natural disasters. LumiAID can provide about five hours of illumination.
