Epson Mapping Challenge arrives in Chile

Chile. Mapping Challenge Latin America, the competition organized by Epson together with Dataton, will take place in Santiago de Chile on October 18, being the second country in the region to receive this project. The competition that selected audiovisual artists (mappers) from all over Latin America to be able to intervene the outstanding facades of emblematic buildings, will present at the National Museum of Fine Arts the winning team "Projection of Ideas".

The Mapping Challenge seeks to transmit, through artistic projections in public spaces, the cultural wealth of eight Latin American countries. Chile, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Brazil and Argentina were the countries chosen to unite Epson's cutting-edge laser video projector technology with local talent and history in an innovative, high-impact show.

"This is a great opportunity to unite technology and culture in a free show for the community, propose new ways of making art and bring these shows closer to citizens. In addition, having as a stage a building as emblematic as the National Museum of Fine Arts is an opportunity for this Mapping Challenge party to be seen by many Chileans," said Soledad Camps, Epson Chile Marketing Manager.

More than a hundred mappers participated in the competition, and the jury in charge of the selection was composed of Lars Sandlund, CEO of Dataton, Yasunori Ogawa, Director of Epson's Visual Products Operations Division and prominent artists Bart Kresa, Refik Anadol and VJ Spetto. In Chile, Proyección de Ideas has been chosen, a company dedicated to the audiovisual sector that provides design, realization, implementation and audiovisual  content solutions for corporate events, massive events, scenographies for festivals and TV programs,  museography, fixed installations, among others.

"Mapping Challenge is a great initiative of Epson, which brings the art of mapping to many capitals in Latin America and gives space to new and established artists to express their talent. In this way Epson allows the audience of those cities to have a special playful moment with extreme delicacy and sensitivity. The art of mapping is a gift to cities, it's growing the best thing inside of us: creativity," said VJ Spetto, jury.

The Mapping Challenge Latin America seeks to show the innovative technology of Epson video projectors and their use in large-scale shows, where they stand out for the performance of their devices and the quality of their projections. In addition, the company wants to celebrate with its customers the cultural diversity of the continent, the indigenous talent and the use of technology to transform everyday life.
