Pink Floyd creates immersive experience with Sennheiser

International. Sennheiser and Pink Floyd have partnered to showcase Ambeo 3D audio technology in action as part of the sound expert's work for The Pink Floyd: His Mortal Remains Exhibit, which opens to the public on May 13 at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

One of the most anticipated elements of the exhibition is Comfortably Numb's new immersive mix from the Live 8 concert – the last time David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright played together on stage with former member Roger Waters –  created by using Sennheiser's Ambeo 3D technology in a new format using 25 speakers.

The immersive 360-degree mix was unveiled earlier this month at the famed Abby Road studio in London, where Pink Floyd recorded several of their albums including The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here.

Pink Floyd associate recording engineer Andy Jackson, who worked with Pink Floyd on several albums including The Division Bell, is collaborating closely on the project with SImon Rhodes and Simon Franglen, the production masterminds behind the brand's music of the new Ambeo in the Pink Floyd version, creating new mixes, which use many channels, but also much more discreet as never before possible.

Rhodes is a senior engineer at Abby Road with over 18 years of experience working on productions for projects including the films Avatar and Spectre, while Franglen is a Grammy-winning composer and producer who has been nominated for a Golden Globe with credits on many of the films of all time. including the films Titanic and Avatar.

As the official audio partner for the Pink Floyd: His Mortal Remains exhibit, a retrospective of the band's history, connecting music, sound technology, live performances and more, Sennheiser will enable captivating audio experiences for visitors using innovative Ambeo 3D technology. Sennheiser's systems will be used for audio elements throughout the exhibition, including delivering the highest quality arrangements of Pink Floyd's historical documents.

Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, who returned to Abbey Road during the production of the Ambeo 3D mix, commented on the collaboration: "We've been using the Sennheiser team since Pink Floyd started as a live band and we used the MD 409 microphones for our performances, so it's obvious that they provide us with the audio experience in our show."
