Tempest offers mapping protection in Burj Al Arab

International. Tempest has helped illuminate the iconic Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in Dubai, as part of a unique projection mapping project. The company supplied the Cyclone 8500 enclosures, Cyclovator Tilt Kits and the world's first installation of its innovative AC Assist technology, to protect 14 Barco HDQ-2K40 projectors from Dubai's scorching heat.

The system has allowed the tall 300-meter building to become an amazing canvas for a spectacular projection mapping show with animated Arabic motifs. The project was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on December 2, the UAE's national day.

Built to resemble a waving sail, and standing on an artificial 280m island off the coast of Jumeirah Beach, the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah is one of the most iconic and luxurious hotels in the world. As part of an overall remodel, including the replacement of architectural lighting, end users Jumeirah International LLC will require the projection mapping solution for use on the front wall of the building.

With temperatures reaching over 50C in the UAE, the installation presented a serious challenge. IBSTempest – a partnership of Tempest Enclosures and the Middle East equipment protection solutions provider – was asked to provide a solution to protect the powerful 40,000 lumen projectors.

"The challenge for Tempest was Dubai's beachside atmosphere. We regularly see nighttime temperatures approaching 40°C, and the humidity can be incredible here in summer," said Gavin Coxon, director of IBSTempest in Dubai.

Tempest's AC technology has been able to reduce the temperature of air entering the enclosures by 10-15C. The boxes have been customized with side access panels to allow the maintenance of the projector lamp without the need to lower the boxes, and the colors of the same integrate perfectly with the areas where they are located.
