The Small Cell Forum, an industry association and operators supporting the deployment of small cells worldwide, and 4G Americas, a wireless industry association representing LTE mobile broadband and its evolution to 5G, announced an agreement to collaborate on work programs in the field of small cells and 5G communications systems and networks.
This agreement aims to provide better communication on operator requirements to standardisers and informed technology representation to the industry as a whole.
The agreement formalizes the exchange of information between the two organizations, which may include publications, joint meetings and workshops, and a wide spectrum of outreach and dissemination activities in the industry.
"The challenges of delivering a future of mobile broadband and multi-gigabyte HetNets demand input from the industry that is able to bring together the best it has to offer for the benefit of operators, providers and end users," said Sue Monahan, CEO of the Small Cell Forum. "This agreement with 4G Americas signifies an important step forward in ensuring a faster and clearer path to 5G deployment."
In addition to contributing to a smoother deployment of future mobile broadband networks, the agreement enables a stronger voice for members of both organizations, which integrate operators, suppliers and industry experts, in the development of 5G technology and its standards. Sharing the experience and information of members on both sides will limit duplication of efforts and could accelerate the rollout of 5G networks and services at a decisive time for mobile broadband.
