Big Video does mapping in Bogotá

Colombia. The rental-staging company Big Video made a videomapping on the façade of the Calima Shopping Center in Bogotá on the occasion of the premiere in Colombia of the film Transformers 4: The Age of Extinction. Eight Christie projectors of 3DLP technology allowed Big Video to make this projection a reality on a surface of 65 x 20 meters.

The company LPX Digital was looking to generate a great impact to promote the premiere of the fourth installment of the Transformers saga. And nothing better to achieve it than to project on the second largest shopping center in Colombia in size, where thousands of people circulate daily. To do this, he contacted Big Video.

The rental company then got down to work and assembled a matrix of six Roadster S+20K projectors (3DLP technology, 20,000 lumens, SXGA+ resolution) and two Roadster S+10K-M (3DLP, 11,500 lumens, SXGA+). Two S+20K projected on each side of the façade, and the central part was divided into two zones vertically, each with an S+20K and an S+10K-M.

The projectors were mounted on Scaffold structures, eight meters from the ground, with a shooting distance of approximately 26 meters. The synchronization of video, lights and sound was done with the Watchout multimedia processor, which was also used to perform all the geometric correction and blending. The total pixel projection was 4720 x 2160.

The projected video was seven minutes long and contained excerpts from the film and promotional content from the sponsors (General Motors, Hasbro, Oreo, Paramount and Calima Shopping Center). The screening took place over three nights in a row with four free performances per day, and with an average of 350 spectators per show.

As for the biggest challenges of the event, Joaquín Gutiérrez, general manager of Big Video, mentioned the reduced assembly time (a single day) and the inclement weather, given that it was outdoors. "But the ease of handling of the projectors and their excellent performance in adverse weather conditions made this mapping a success."
