Uruguay. In Montevideo, an intelligent public lighting network will be installed that will cover more than 200 square kilometers. The company in charge of it will be NNNCo, which decided to use a private LoRaWAN network based on the Actility platform.

This project, which will install 70,000 smart street lamps in the Uruguayan capital, promises to improve community and road safety to benefit more than 1.3 million people. To meet this goal, the National Narrowband Network Company (NNNCo) established a contract with the technology provider Wellness TechGroup, which will be in charge of providing IoT network coverage that will operate the streetlights, which will have LED technology and deploy a powerful and interoperable remote management system, which is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 31,500 tons of CO2 per year, a reduction of around 80%.

However, LoRaWAN technology, a next-generation network server platform from Actility, was selected to ensure a low total cost of ownership, advanced technical attributes, high security, flexible network deployment models, optimized battery life, and the ability to access a fast-growing ecosystem of other solutions. In addition, this project will be the starting point of an infrastructure-based network that can host other smart city initiatives.

Overall, the new smart street lighting network will use Wellness TechGroup's WeLight Manager CMS software, The Actis Nema 7 LPC LoRaWAN nodes and NNNCo's LoRaWAN network. A set that promises functionality, high coverage and control, as well as an environmentally friendly operation.
