Museum enhances visitor experience with LinkRay

International. LinkRay technology, developed by Panasonic, is being used at the Petersen Automotive Museum, an enclosure dedicated to the history of the automobile in which visitors receive a complete experience that mixes the presence of real vehicles with spectacular images displayed through Panasonic monitors, projectors and video walls.

Now, through the availability of LinkRay, motorsport lovers can interact with many of the aforementioned screens to receive exclusive or personalized content directly on their smartphones. Located in the city of Los Angeles, California, the Petersen Automotive Museum was completely renovated in 2015 and the incorporation of Panasonic technology is part of this process.

This technology combines the use of LED light frequencies, an app and information in the cloud, so that, through a smartphone, it is the public itself that requests and obtains additional content. Simply download the free app (iOS and Android), activate the smartphone camera and point it at an LED light source (screen, luminous sign or lamp) to receive extra data such as prices, coupons or schedules, even videos or personalized information according to the visitor's profile.

LinkRay has been integrated into the Petersen Automotive Museum's free app, giving visitors the ability to access a variety of activities, as well as ticket purchases and discounts for future exhibitions.

By establishing a link with smartphones, the LinkRay platform stores information about the interaction and downloads of content made by visitors, which obtains a statistical profile to make decisions about new communication and marketing strategies based on the tastes and preferences of the public.

"In 2015, in general, museums suffered a notable decrease in the number of attendees, so we looked for ways to improve the visitor experience," says Adam Langsbard, Head of Marketing at the Petersen Automotive Museum. "We turned to Panasonic, which has already been our technology ally, for help to better connect with the general audience, and especially with millennials. Their new LinkRay technology was an exciting option because it is innovative and cost efficient. In addition, we could be the first museum in the United States to offer it and we decided to take that opportunity."

In addition to LinkRay technology, the museum uses a variety of Panasonic audio-visual equipment. For example, they have an impressive projection of 51 meters long for which 16 of the 46 projectors of the Japanese brand are used; as well as with 16 LED screens for professional use.
