International. Shure announced the availability of Digital Feedback Reduction (DFR) as part of a free firmware update for its Intellimix SCM820 digital automatic mixer, which will allow for two additional adaptive EQ filtration channels, which will attenuate feedback frequencies.
The SCM820, introduced in April 2013, is an eight-channel digital automatic mixer, designed for use in speech and sound reinforcement applications, requiring multiple microphones operating simultaneously. Through the addition of IntelliMix technology, the microphone for a specific speaker is activated while unused microphones are kept dimmed.
The SCM820's control interface offers consumers control of mixer positions, with options/tabs for inputs, outputs, IntelliMix parameters, link groups, and preferences Due to the flexibility of the SCM820's digital signal processor engine, Shure has added DFR to the software's suite of capabilities, for the benefit of current and future customers.
Features in the latest firmware update (included in version 1.1.X onwards) include: automatic feedback detection and filter utilization, the ability to apply up to 16 filters per channel, a bandwidth of 25 Hz to 20 KHz, and up to 18 dB of gain reduction per filter. In addition, a "freeze" function that blocks the depth and frequency of existing filters to prevent unwanted automatic changes, and an "auto-clear" function that automatically returns filter positions to a previously defined state.
