International. One of the main novelties for the audiovisual industry that were seen in the last version of the CES fair, in Las Vegas, was the presentation of Samsung's advances in terms of flexible screens.
This time the company presented a prototype cell phone with a flexible screen, based on Oled technology and the thickness of a sheet of paper. And although it does not have the flexibility to bend the latter, it does allow it to roll up.
The director of the display lab for Samsung Electronics Co, Brian Berkeley, based in California, was in charge of the presentation. He said that the technology used for flexible screens is based on what has been developed for the rigid screens that are currently found in Samsung phones on the market.
He stressed that one of the main difficulties they have had with flexible screens is to make them tactile, because it would be very complicated to use a touch screen if it is bent with the pressure of the finger. To this is added that the chemicals that make up the screens are quite sensitive to oxygen and that is why they must always be sealed.
And although Samsung presented this flexible screen as a prototype result of its research, it is rumored that this could be one of its main novelties in the next reference of its Galaxy products, either tablets or smartphones.
