United States. The new building of the Valley Christian School Conservatory of the Arts in California now has a multipurpose rehearsal room that can be used as a large room or divided into smaller spaces, maintaining its acoustic characteristics.
In this space was installed the acoustic system Constellation of Meyer Sound. James Black, of Acoustic Dimensions in San Diego and the lead consultant for the Conservatory project, said: "The school wanted acoustics with exceptional variability. The idea was to accommodate everything from a string ensemble to a full marching band, either for rehearsals or for performances with temporary seating."
The hall measures around 18 by 24 meters and can accommodate an audience of up to 250 people for a recital with a medium-sized ensemble. By lowering two Skyfold walls (creating an airspace of more than one meter) two acoustically isolated spaces are created for rehearsals.
The basis of the Constellation system installed in the school is the D-Mitri digital audio platform, consisting of a Core processor, two input/output units, and dual Vras processors that house the reverberation algorithms that power it.
The system is complemented by 30 Stella-8C installation speakers recessed in the ceiling and 42 miniature MM-4XP speakers, all self-styled. In addition, the system can be controlled by means of iPads secured to each podium.
