Latin America. LG developed streaming capabilities integrated with Google Cast for LG hotel smart TVs. Hyatt is working with LG in hopes of becoming the first hospitality brand to enable the deployment of these new integrated LG hotel smart TVs later this year.
Through SONIFI, a streaming partner that provides streaming services to more than 500,000 rooms in the industry, Hyatt is assisting in the LG-Google next-generation streaming solution for new and existing Hyatt hotels around the world.
Bringing Google Cast to the industry's best-selling hotel smart TVs, using LG's Pro:Centric platform, represents a significant step forward in the evolution of the guest experience journey, according to Michael Kosla, senior vice president of LG Business Solutions USA, who demonstrated the new TVs publicly for the first time at the HITEC 2024 hotel technology show. "LG is pushing the boundaries of what's possible in hotel room entertainment through partnerships with technology leaders like Google to combine our new hotel smart TVs with the latest in streaming technology to benefit both hoteliers and guests," he said.
"Aligned with our purpose of care and goal to make the guest experience even more seamless, Hyatt is proud to work to solidify our role as a leader in hotel room streaming," said Rohan Jani, associate vice president of guest products at Hyatt. "We introduced the industry's first streaming solution in 2017, and now, with Google and LG, we're exploring taking in-room streaming to the next level to increase operational efficiency and enhance the guest experience."
Incorporating Google Cast into LG hotel smart TVs can reduce complexity for hotels and system integrators by offering the streaming feature for both Android and iOS users, Kosla explained, adding: "With this integrated approach, there is no additional equipment to purchase, configure and maintain, there is no risk of device theft, and an HDMI port is released."
Tiger Lan, Google's senior director of engineering for multi-device experiences, said: "The Google Cast capabilities built into LG hotel TVs will offer hotel operators the best integrated solution that reduces costs and allows guests to pick up their personal streaming services where they left off."
Using a simple QR code on the TV, guests will be able to quickly establish a streaming connection and start streaming videos, music, and more from their devices wirelessly. In addition to the mobile device controls, the TV remote can also be used for typical playback, track, and volume functions, ensuring a simple and familiar user experience. Then, when guests check out, the devices will automatically reset.
LG Pro:Centric 2024 hotel smart TVs, which ship now, will receive the new Google Cast feature via a software update later this year. As the leading supplier of TVs to the hospitality industry in the U.S., LG offers a range of hotel smart TVs from 43 inches to 75 inches with up to 4K resolution to fit virtually any space, from standard rooms to penthouse suites. Powerful LG Pro Smart software enables the use of modern solutions, including content streaming, interface customization, and even networked digital signage capabilities.
Google Cast is compatible with Android 6 and later, iOS 14 and later, and comes pre-installed on all Android devices.
