Evolution in corporate communication

The advancement of technologies has made possible not only the expansion of consumption, but also the unification of distances, cultures, schedules, information and people, allowing more agile and efficient communications.

By Taís Ribeiro, CTS

As if it were a movie, come the memories of the technological evolution that we have lived in recent decades and the great impact they have had on our lives, both personally and professionally. I was just starting my career in the audiovisual industry and companies began to invest more and more in their environments and technologies. Everything converged in new forms of communication to facilitate business and in the experience of users.

Traditional meeting rooms were already looking for the title of collaborative or multipurpose rooms. Graphic designs moved to 3D. Projections and screens gained pixels, brightness and lifespan. The contents were virtualized in software. The environments were already characterized as intelligent. Videoconferencing gained strength, expanding from point-to-point to multipoint and then to telepresence.

AV technology fulfilled its role by enabling increasingly productive meetings, less investment in logistics, faster decisions, reduced operational costs, better interaction between people. The benefits of virtual meetings streamlined operations. The word collaboration was enshrined through technologies that allowed better communication between teams.

But we know that, like all evolution, there were also great challenges. Limitations in infrastructure, cost, practicality and quality bring a mix of suspense and comedy to my memories. The Internet was failing, the control wasn't working, people weren't listening to each other. Business leaders needed audio issues to stop getting in the way.

There was definitely demand and room for rapid growth of the AV industry for corporations, especially for communication platforms and technologies. And nothing more important in communication than voice.

There are several forms of communication, written, oral, gestural, interpersonal. Techniques and tools that help leaders and professionals in their day to day to be more efficient in the way they communicate. But the voice, making yourself understood in a clean and intelligible way is still the basis. Impeccable audio quality makes meetings more important every day.

In a peek of eyes, I see the impressive evolution in such a short time. The environments today are open, common spaces and plug-and-play. The tools available and the connection between people is 24x7. The contents are shared and worked on simultaneously. Analog is digital, disciplines converge and integrate, hardware is intuitive and software-based. Work is in the office, at home, at school, or anywhere.

The advancement of technologies has made possible not only the expansion of consumption, but also the unification of distances, cultures, schedules, information and people, allowing more agile and efficient communications. Virtual collaboration connects us with customers and expands the reach of talent in organizations, directly impacting economic performance and employee satisfaction, who have the flexibility to work remotely.

However, while they continue to exercise an essential business function, they are constantly plagued by audio issues. Echo, background noise, cut audio, difficulty connecting or being properly picked up by microphones. Users get frustrated about wasting valuable time on problem solving, when they should be collaborating naturally.

Audio quality is a crucial issue and requires investment in available technologies that enable a better user experience in their personal and professional lives, bringing organizations great benefits of productivity, interoperability and scalability.

With so many changes and trends, when I think about the future of communication technologies, I see that there is much more to come. More modern and automated technologies, fully intelligent rooms, fully integrated platforms, environments with artificial intelligence and surely much more. But when thinking about the importance of people interacting with technologies, and how it all comes down to the good result of communication, I perceive that the importance of consistent and quality audio will not change. IT professionals and business decision-makers will continue to invest in audio solutions for collaboration, as voice, while analog, will always be the foundation of communication.
