Artificial intelligence now with deep learning

Latin America. Artificial Intelligence (AI) are computer systems that can achieve intelligent activities such as those of the human brain, for example: learning, and reasoning. The learning method used by early AI systems was to make computers understand rules and logically find solutions based on those rules. In this way, the systems were limited, since they only gave solutions within the scope of the information they had.

Currently, there is the so-called "deep learning", which incorporates mechanisms similar to those of neural circuits in the brain, which allow computers to learn the characteristics of the data entered into them, they can even make judgments about patterns that they do not yet have. Using this method, it is possible to automatically give explanations to images or videos, perform highly accurate machine translations, and make forecasts in a variety of fields, such as financial markets, weather, and professional sports.

Hitachi/H AI Technology (hereinafter "H") is the name of Hitachi's Artificial Intelligence engine that uses deep learning and is one of the key technologies in the Hitachi Lumada IoT Platform. Hitachi announced H in 2015 to respond to a wide range of applications. H can learn from large amounts of data and make judgments on its own, eliminating the need for people to establish previous hypotheses, and allows finding solutions that humans had not conceived.

Robots that learn
In the video of the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8i6wHCefU4&feature=youtu.be an H-equipped robot is placed on a swing made of toy blocks. The purpose of the experiment is to maximize the amplitude of the swing without providing prior knowledge on how to do it. The robot can bend and extend its knees but has no knowledge of how to swing. At first the movements are random and the swing barely moves. The robot begins to move the swing in less than a minute. This is truly an example of deep learning where human input is not necessary.

H is designed for general-purpose AI. H connects to existing systems to learn from different types of data and grow according to the situation. As in the swing example, H looks for factors and conditions critical to business objectives among the various types of data that already exist and subsequently looks for a method to optimize those objectives.

Hitachi has been involved in R&D and Proof of Concept (PoC) activities targeting "Hitachi/H AI Technology" for approximately 10 years, and has established an extensive track record in reforms within businesses in a variety of fields, including finance, transportation, logistics, manufacturing and healthcare. 57 projects have been implemented in 14 areas.

The key to H is its general-purpose nature. According to Hitachi General Corporate Scientist Kazuo Yano, "H does not require customization or adjustment for storage. Under changing business situations, the system learns from the situation."

H will be a powerful component of our core IoT platform: Lumada.
