Saint George renews AV technology

Between 2013 and 2015, Saint George's School in Chile installed nearly 100 Interactive Epson projectors to benefit and enhance the educational experience of its nearly 2,600 students.

A school of tradition and with extensive experience in the Chilean capital is the Saint George, belonging to the religious congregation Santa Cruz. Since 1936 he has educated Chileans and has been the protagonist of events that have marked the history of this country.

To continue improving the teaching experience that has characterized them, in recent years the school's directors decided to undertake a technological renovation of spaces such as classrooms, in which the existing interactive whiteboards were changed by projectors.

Riodrigo Troncoso, Regional Product Manager of Epson, was in charge of supporting the entire selection process of the new technology for Saint George's College. He highlighted to AVI LATINOAMÉRICA that there were about 100 projectors of Bright Link technology used in this installation.

"The intervention involved, among other things, the gradual acquisition and installation of nearly 100 Epson Bright Link interactive projectors over a span of three years. Originally the school had interactive whiteboard units. However, knowing the interactive projector as an integral solution to improve student learning, they chose to make a technological upgrade by installing an Epson Bright Link interactive projector in approximately 90% of classrooms.", said Rodrigo Troncoso

The interactive projectors were installed in classrooms, in which about 2600 students attend their training process and have high natural light conditions. On average, each classroom accommodates a total of 40 students.

A complete solution
The school needed to do a technological renovation. Prior to the installation of the interactive projectors, the school had a limited number of normal projectors and fixed interactive whiteboards. Only a limited group of students and teachers had the possibility to access and use these technologies.

Knowing the interactive projector solution, the educational institution valued the fact that it was only required to acquire a single product to obtain a complete interactive solution. Another important factor was that no type of whiteboard is required in the classroom to use interactivity.

"With the Epson projectors selected by the school you can work directly on any wall or wall. Finally, the pre- and post-sales support provided by Epson and its distribution channels gave the school the necessary security to make the investment," added Rodrigo Troncoso.

Each classroom has an interactive projector, a desktop computer and an external sound system. Classrooms have a network connection and can also use the benefits of centralized management and control of equipment and also use collaboration tools that are included with the projector.

BrightLink technology developed by Epson works on virtually any surface: a whiteboard, a smooth wall, a blackboard with dry erase paint or a table. Interactive capabilities are built into the projector, not the whiteboard, so it works with virtually any surface.

When used in educational institutions, instructors can continue to use their dry erase boards with BrightLink and save money by not having to disassemble whiteboards in perfect condition. It is compatible with all applications and Web 2.0. The BrightLink pen works just like a mouse on a PC or Mac. Use it to double-tap and double-tap, open, close, and navigate.

To date, the Saint George school in the Chilean capital has more than 150 teachers who have been trained by Epson in the use of interactive projectors.

Advantages of the installation carried out
On the advantages of this installation in the Chilean school, the director of Epson in this country commented that "the incorporation of interactive technology through Epson projectors has allowed the client to improve the pedagogical processes in the classroom. To achieve this, it has been necessary to train the group of teachers in the use of these new technologies and their applicability in teaching."

But the process of adopting a new technology has required an adaptation to change on the part of the user. The end users, that is, the teachers, have had the support and instruction in the correct use of the products, which is why they are satisfied with the progress made.

An important point to highlight during the months that the intervention has lasted, has been the proactivity of the school in the face of the challenge of the use of new technologies. The institution assigned a group of teachers to take a step forward in the teaching process.

"This is the implementation of the new educational platform 'Saber y más' which is the product of an exclusive strategic alliance between Epson and Santillana publishing house. This group of teachers will have more than 100,000 contents and digital resources developed by Santillana to which they will have access as a benefit for the acquisition of Epson projectors. Once teachers have evaluated this educational platform, a massive implementation will be proposed as a benefit in the acquisition of future Epson projectors. This is a benefit that Epson is beginning to deliver to the education sector as an added value of projectors," concluded Rodrigo Troncoso.
